14 arrested over stoning of Raila's chopper in Uasin Gishu

April 02, 2022 0

Police in Uasin Gishu County are holding  14 suspects over the attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga's convoy in Kebenes, Soy Constituency on Friday.

Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Steven Kihara while confirming the arrests said police are also pursuing a senior politician who has been linked to the incident.

Kihara added that the politician will be arrested to serve as a lesson to others.

"We will not allow that to happen in our country and anyone doing that will not be tolerated," he said on Saturday.

The arrests come after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i directed the National Police Service to investigate and arrest youths involved in the incident.

In a statement, CS  Matiang'i condemned the incident, saying that those who organized the attack should also be arrested.

"I call upon the National Police Service to investigate the matter and ensure that all the culprits and their masterminds are made to swiftly and decisively face the consequences of their criminal actions," he said.

The CS noted that such attacks take the country back to the days it has worked hard to put behind, which was as a result of political intolerance.

"The regrettable incident is a sad and atavistic reminder of the ugly face of violent political intolerance that our beloved motherland has worked hard to consign to the annals of a painful history in the last 14 years," Matiang'i added.

A 26-year-old man is facing murder charges after stabbing his 30-year-old friend during a bar fight over an argument over a job placement in Uasin Gishu County.

A police report indicates that the deceased, Peter Ekai, succumbed to injuries he got during the fight while Elphas Kipkoech sustained injuries.

Reportedly, an argument between the two friends ensued when they were on a drinking spree at Longisa trading centre in Kamagut.

It is alleged that Ekai accused Kipkoech of plotting to have him fired from ChapChap security agency where he (Ekai) worked as a guard in order to replace him.

However, Kipkoech denied the allegations and they were engaged in a war of words which turned into a full-blown bar brawl.

The two went on to attack each each other using sharp objects. They stabbed each other but Kipkoech aimed at Ekai's chest.

Unfortunately, on reaching the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where he had been rushed for treatment, Ekai succumbed to the injuries.

On the other hand, Kipkoech was treated at the same hospital and was later discharged after which he was taken to the Eldoret Police Station.

February 19, 2021 0
Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju
has called for a meeting with 17 nominated MCAs from the Uasin Gishu County Assembly at the party headquarters ahead of the county's vote on the BBI Bill next week.

Reportedly, the meeting is scheduled to take place today with discussions regarding the BBI being part of the agenda.

Part of Tuju’s letter to each of the MCAs read, “This is to invite you to a Jubilee Party Uasin Gishu nominated members meeting at the party headquarters Nairobi on Friday 19th February 2021 at 12pm. Your attendance is essential.”

A week ago, BBI Bill was tabled at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly and it has been going through public participation before the MCAs debate it and vote next week.

Deputy President William Ruto, who has termed the Bill as a no priority to Kenyans, comes from Uasin Gishu County and the assembly has a total of 48 MCAs most of who are his allies.

However, the DP has not lobbied the MCAs to either reject or vote for it.

Although the Uasin Gishu County MCAs are caught in a dilemma, most said they would make an independent decision after public participation

The assembly whip Gilbert Tenai said, “Tuju should not intimidate the nominated MCAs because they are leaders with the capacity to decide on the bill independently.”

According to the assembly whip, there is no need for the party to force the BBI on MCAs or Kenyans if is a good document.

Baringo County was the first to reject the Bill but
a section of the county's MCAs have gone to court to counter the decision arguing that there was no voting at the assembly.

Kinoti duped us, Kiambaa survivors claim

November 28, 2020 0
It had started with a call from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office. The person said he was reaching out to survivors of the 2007/8 post-election violence.

They obliged to his request to visit the DCI headquarters in Nairobi, where they recorded “statements” about the happenings of that period.

“George Kinoti sent one of his officers who gave me a call asking me if I can find those who survived the Kiambaa massacre to meet the DCI boss but he did not tell us the aim and that is how I gathered them because, as a pastor of the (Kiambaa PAG) Church, I know,” said Reverend Stephen Mburu.

So the DCI allegedly organised their trip to Nairobi and back after hosting them at a press conference where he spoke forcefully about helping them seek justice and protection after being threatened.

What followed was a national debate about reopening old wounds, with President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday warning the DCI against “exhuming old graves”.

“Those trying to open up the graves must be warned. What they are doing is not a joke,” the President said when he presided over the launch of the collection of signatures required for the BBI referendum planned for June next year.
