Counties in the North Rift have received 60,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses.
From this batch, jabs will be administered to health workers in Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet and Turkana counties.
The vaccines were delivered Kenya Medical Supplies Authority stores in Eldoret and was received by Uasin Gishu Health executive Everlyne Rotich.
Rotich said, “We have trained staff on storage and administration of the vaccine which we will distribute to each of the counties in the region.”
The doses will be stored in Huruma County Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Moi Barracks in Eldoret.
According to Rotich, the storage facilities were confirmed to be of the required temperatures.
“Our cold rooms are in the required state and storage of the vaccines will be a matter of seriousness by our staff,” she said.
Huruma will administer 15,000 doses, Moi Referral will handle 6,000 doses while while Moi Barracks will hold 3,000 doses.
The health executive urged residents to continue observing the Covid-19 control measures including wearing of masks, handwashing and social distancing.
She added, “As we get more doses in the near future more people will be vaccinated but at the moment all Kenyans need to continue observing all the measures put in place by the government.”
According to the Nort Rift regional vaccine stores manager George Wata, all details on the vaccine will be kept for easy monitoring and follow up during administration.
“We have necessary procedures in place as concerns handling of the vaccines and follow up and that is what will guide us all through,” Wata said.
The administration of the vaccines will be launched at Huruma Hospital by Governor Jackson Mandago.
