Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has ignored Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai's directive demanding him to surrender to police by 1pm following an incident where he slapped an IEBC official during the Matungu by-election in Kakamega County on Thursday.
Mutyambai issued a statement on Friday afternoon saying Echesa will be treated “as an armed and dangerous criminal” if he fails to surrender by 1pm.
The statement reads, “The IG has directed Hon. Rashid Echesa who is on the run after assaulting an election official to surrender to the nearest Police Station by 1.00 pm this afternoon otherwise he will be treated as an armed and dangerous criminal.”
The former Sports CS slapped the IEBC officer who he claimed chased one of their agents out of the polling station during voting.
So far, no police station has reported his whereabouts.
