Jubilee nominations for Huruma ward in Uasin Gishu County were disrupted by residents, forcing police to lob teargas to disperse the chaotic crowd.
During the exercise that took place on Saturday, January 9, a section of Jubilee members in the ward who were blocked from voting because their names were missing in the register wanted the process stopped.
According to voters, the nomination exercise had various irregularities that compromised them. They referred to it as a sham
Hussein Kassim, a voter who was turned away stated, "Already the nomination is compromised. How can you tell a voter their name is missing from the list to come with a voters' card? Voters can be imported from elsewhere and given voting cards sourced from scammers."
According to the Jubilee Presiding officer for MV Patel polling station Caroline Jepkoech, the situation was contained.
Jepkoech said, "We are witnessing some form of incitement that resulted in the chaos. The register we use for the nomination was sourced from the IEBC thus issues of voters missing on the list should not arise.”
Lucy Wangari, Lucya Ngendo and Francis Njoroge are the aspirants seeking the party ticket for the electoral commission by-election to be held on March 4, 2021.
