Kenya will roll out Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination next week as the Ministry of Health said it will receive specialized syringes donations from today.
The syringes donations will be equivalent to the number of vaccines the country has received from the US government.
Speaking after inspecting the vaccines main depot in Kitengela, the Vaccine taskforce Chairman Willis Akhwale said the vaccines will on be given on a pre-registration basis, meaning vaccines centers that will have mobilized a huge number will be prioritized.
"Pfizer/BioNTech requires specialised storage, we have liaised with county governments and vaccination centers to ensure that they mobilize people to register beforehand so that once the vaccine is thawed (liquefied), it can be used within a specific period before expiry,” Dr. Akhwale said.
According to Dr. Akhwale, the vaccine has a dynamic shelf-life, the vaccine has to be stored at temperatures-70 degrees Celsius .
