Africa CDC launches regional office in Kenya

The Africa Union through the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC) has launched its Eastern Africa Regional Collaborative Center( EA-RCC) in Nairobi.


The health agency's new Regional Collaborative Center which was unveiled by Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary Mutai Kagwe on Friday will coordinate the agency's activities in 14 member states in Eastern Africa region as the agency seeks to strengthen its surveillance and laboratory system in the region.


The EA-RCC is situated in the Ministry of Health's Afya House Annex.

Members States who will be served by the new office include, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Djibouti, Somalia, Madagascar, Seychelles, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Comoros, Sudan, and South Sudan.


The launch of the center brought together health officials from the 14 States, some of whom followed the launch virtually.


The Africa CDC has so far opened five regional collaborative centers including in Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, and Gabon.
