Semenya wins 5000M race, misses Tokyo qualifying time

South Africa's double Olympic 800 meters champion Caster Semenya moved close to qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Games after defending her 5000 meters title and emerging top in a sporting event in Pretoria on Thursday.


Semenya clocked 15:42:28 seconds outside the Tokyo qualifying time of 15:10.


The Tokyo Olympic Games are scheduled for July 23 to August 8th.


Semenya 30, who is among female athletes who usually have a high level of testosterone which gives them added advantage will however not defend her 800 meters title in Japan after she refused to abide by World Athletics's testosterone reducing guidelines.
