All teachers irrespective of their age will now be inoculated against coronavirus, Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia has said.
Macharia spoke on Thursday at Mtihani House during the release of the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary School Examination ( KCPE).
According to the TSC boss, unlike before where the vaccine was reserved for frontline workers and persons aged above 58 years, the President has now allowed all teachers to be headteachers
"Today, the President has allowed us to ensure that all teachers will be allowed to take the COVID-19 vaccine irrespective of their age. We’re appealing to all teachers therefore to ensure that they get the jab even as we reopen the schools.”
She added" I appeal to all examiners who will be travelling for marking exercise of KCSE next week to ensure they are vaccinated before travelling to the city."
The TSC CEO further revealed that the covid-9 pandemic has so far claimed the lives of 15 primary school teachers, 3 deputy headteachers and 8 headteachers.
