William Ruto declared President elect

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has declared Deputy President William Ruto as Kenya's President elect.

Mr Ruto was declared the winner of a the August 9th polls after garnering  7,176,141 votes which is equivalent to 50.49% his closet challenger Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance who got 6,942,930 votes which is translates  48.85%. 

The declaration at Bomas of Kenya came six days after Kenyans went to the ballot, to elect the 5th president who will succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta who is serving his second and final term.

Earlier, the ceremony was thrown into disarray after Azimio chief agent Saitabao Kanchory in company of other coalition members stormed the dias protesting the yet to be declared result terming it as not being transparent. 

At the same time four IEBC commissioners led by vice chair Juliana Cherera, commissioners Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang'aya disputed the result have alleging that the results were arrived at in an opaque manner promising to give a detailed report on a later day.

"We are not at Bomas because we cannot take ownership of the results that are going to be announced," Ms Cherera said earlier today.
