Kenya's former world record holder in the 10km race Agnes Tirop is dead.
Tirop who was recently featured in the Kip Keino classic held last month was found with stab wounds on her abdomen at her home in Iten.
Athletics Kenya confirmed the unfortunate news.
"Atheltics Kenya are this afternoon distraught to learn about the untimely death of World 10,000 metres bronze medallist Agnes Tirop," AK said.
"Kenya has lost a jewel who was one of the fastest-rising athletics giants on the international stage, thanks to her eye-catching performances on the track... We pray that God may grant strength to family and friends at this difficult time."
The 25-year-old long-distance runner was part of Team Kenya for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she finished fourth in the 5000m behind winners Sifan Hassan Of Netherlands, Hellen Obiri and Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay.
Last week she finished second in the Valencia half marathon at a time of 30:02.
