Nairobi's iconic Hilton Hotel is set to shut its doors on December 31 after 53 of existence in the country.
Confirming the news, the hotel spokesperson said that the shareholders had discussions and concluded to cease operations.
“Covid-19 created challenges for our industry but the decision to cease operations is not directly connected to the pandemic,” the spokesperson told a local news outlet.
The hotel which boasts of 287 rooms said it will redeploy a number of it's staff to hotels within its branches in the city like Hilton Nairobi Hurlingham and Hilton Garden Inn Nairobi Airport.
Hilton Group of Hotels owns 59.42 per cent of the Hilton Hotel while the government through Kenya Tourist Development Corporation owns the rest.
