Afropop star Yemi Alade to lead Africa Covid-19 vaccine campaign

Nigerian songstress Yemi Alade has been appointed as Africa’s ambassador for covid 19.

The multiple award-winning singer will be  tasked with the responsibility of mobilizing Africans to get vaccinated against the pandemic , in a campaign dubbed #Its up to us.

The campaign is part of  Africa Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and Mastercard Foundation statergy to ramp up the number of inoculated persons 

According to the Africa CDC, about 12.33% of the continent's population is fully vaccinated, and slightly 0.90% have received their booster shot.

While confirming her appointment ,Alade said she is excited to join the Africa CDC, Mastercard, and thousands of Africans to curb the spread of covid-19 through "one shot at a time".

In 2020, Yemi was named Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
