Laura Karwira quits Citizen TV, reveals next move

Citizen TV Gospel Sunday presenter Laura Karwira has quit her job to pursue further studies.

Karwira has been hosting gospel show dubbed Bambika alongside Timeless Noel and DJ Gee Gee.

Announcing her exit on Sunday, she bid her fans goodbye, saying she will be relocating to England where she is set to pursue master's in public health at Oxford Brookes University.

"I am not only leaving the show but also leaving every familiar thing behind: my family, friends and country, and going to England, in the UK, particularly Oxford," she said.

Karwira, a gospel singer, joined Citizen TV as three years ago was grateful for the things God has done in her life.

It's official: Rayvanny parts ways with Wasafi records

After months of speculations about his future at Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) records Tanzanian singer Raymond Shaban Mwakyusa better known as Rayvanny has officially left the recording label.

Rayvanny confirmed his exit on Tuesday revealing he will now focus his energies on his record label dubbed "Next Level Music" and is looking forward to growing music talent.

In a short video shared on his official Instagram handle, Rayvanny paid a glowing tribute to his former boss Diamond Platnumz thanking him for giving him an opportunity to showcase his talent to the world.

“It has now been six years since we started working together, my team, my family WCB Wasafi, we have been driven by love and unity. I have learnt a lot and we have achieved a lot together. I was the first artiste to win a BET award, also the first artiste from east Africa to obtain 100,000,000 view plays on Boomplay. All these happened when we were together. My heartfelt gratitude to my family at Wasafi but most especially to my brother Diamond Platnumz, for giving me an opportunity for the world to see my talent,” Rayvanny said.

“My respect to you Diamond Platnumz will be forever, God bless you Diamond. But there comes a time when a child goes out to start their own life and bring back respect to his family. Now it is my time to leave, and grow other talents at my record label, Next Level Music,” he said.

Rayvanny was signed by Wasafi in 2015.

He becomes the second artiste to leave Wasafi. Singer Harmonize was the first to leave the stable in 2018 to form his Konde Gang Record label.

Popular Nairobi Half Life actor Maina Olwenya is dead

Popular actor Wilfred Maina Olwenya is dead.

According to reports ,Maina, who was best known for his roles in ‘Nairobi Half Life’ as Oti ,collapsed and died on Monday (04.07.2022).

The award winning actor was also a voice actor at Radio Jambo and was the voice behind a number of their promos.

Several high-profile persons and his colleagues took to social media to pay tribute to the fallen talent.

Deputy President, William Ruto who took to his official twitter handle to mourn Olwenya, described him as a brilliant actor who has exited the stage far too soon.

"I mourn with the family, friends and colleagues. We have lost a genuine talent, a dedicated creative and a good man. Like all great talents, Maina will live on through his work. Safiri Salama,".

Radio personality Maina Kageni posted, “We’ll miss you here at Radio Africa… among the very best voices in East Africa…. great actor, superb talent!!!! Recalling your outstanding role in the movie Nairobi Half-life… what a game-changer you were, big boss!!!!!!

Heartstrings Entertainment posted, “Olwenya, your Final Curtain Call. Rest in peace, Talent.”

Nameless and Wahu expecting baby number three

Singers Wahu Kagwi and David ‘Nameless’ Mathenge have announced they are expecting their third child.

The couple made the announcement via a short video shared on Wahu’s official instagram page.

Before sharing the video, Wahu shared a series of posts hinting she was about to make a very special announcement.

“I’m about to make a special announcement… I’m excited overjoyed humbled, yet anxious about it,” Wahu said.

Wahu later made it public that their family is expanding and baby number three is on the way.

“Deep by The M'Z - link in bio! Overjoyed, humbled, grateful, M-let loading,” Wahu captioned the video announcing the pregnancy.

The news comes months to the celebrity couple's 17th wedding anniversary.

Sauti Sol pens lucrative deal with tech firm

Award winning Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol has penned a lucrative deal with Investment platform, Ndovu tech that will see the group promote financial literacy and drive financial inclusion among the youth in Africa.

Speaking moments after the signing , Ndovu’s CEO and Co-founder, Radhika Bhachu, emphasised on the importance of working with key industry influencers to enhance financial literacy and inclusion among the youth.

“Our partnership is one which allows us as individuals and the business to invest globally from wherever we are in the world. It also allows us to easily track investments, growth and give us the chance to let our money work for us without having to stress about the terrible hustle of traditional stock investment. We want our peers and fans to know this is now possible, simple, safe and secure,” said Savara one of the band member.

Ndovu is an online investment platform that gives easy access to local and global financial markets, allowing users to invest with as little as Sh5,050.

This is the latest endorsement, the band is bagging, last year they penned a multi million deal with phone maker infinix Kenya that will see them be the face of their brand.

In February 2021, they partnered with Pace Africa to make pacesol their own brand of bluetooth earbuds.

Harmonize names ex-girlfriend CEO of his music label

Tanzania crooner Harmonize has appointed his ex-girlfriend, Frida Kajala, as the new CEO of his music label Konde Gang.

Kajala's appointment to the fast growing music label comes just days after the singer bought her a brand new Range Rover in efforts to woo her back.

While confirming Kajala's appointment, the label current CEO Choppa said the actress will not only be managing the music label but will also be Harmonize’s manager, in charge of running his music affairs.

“Allow me to welcome in the management team, the new CEO and manager, Kajala. I’m excited to work with you shem,” tweeted Choppa

Harmonize and Kajala started dating in 2020, just months after the Mtaje hitmaker splitted with his Italian wife Sarah Michellotti.

However, Harmonize's relatinship with Frida hit a snag in April 2021 after it was rumoured that the singer was hitting on Kajala'S teenage daughter, Paula Kajala.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcome first child

Pop singer Rihanna and rapper A$AP Rocky have welcomed their first child.

The news of the child birth went viral on inter webs moments after Rihanna shared pictures of her and the newborn.

Rihanna first revealed news she was expecting a baby with her partner A$AP in a series of photos in January.

Their son's birth barely a month after A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, was arrested while returning from holiday in Barbados in connection with a case of unreported November 2021 shooting. Police in Los Angeles were investigating A$AP's involvement in the shooting, in which he allegedly fired several shots at an acquaintance, grazing his hand.

Tanzanian singer Harmonize released after dramatic arrest in Nairobi

Tanzanian crooner Rajab Abdul better known as Harmonize, has been released from Kileleshwa Police Station where he was earlier detained for failing to honour deals to appear at a number of entertainment joints in Nairobi.

The bongo star was expected to make appearances at three clubs including Volume one, Captain Lounge and Cocorico, but only managed to appear at Captain Lounge although briefly .

According to Captains Lounge, Harmonize only performed at the club for five minutes despite being paid for a one-and-a-half hour appearance.

“I paid Sh450,000 to Melamani Limited for Harmonize to come to the club for a party and to be with the fans for one and a half hours, but when he came, he only stayed for not more than five minutes,” Mr Joe Barsil the club's director said.

Harmonize, jetted into the country on Friday to headline the Afrika Moja Concert that went down on Saturday April 30 at KICC.

Reggae star Jah Cure sentenced to six years in prison

Reggae star Jah Cure has been sentenced to six years in prison in the Netherlands for attempted manslaughter.

This came after ' Call on me ' hit maker was accused of stabbing a promoter, Nicardo ‘Papa’ Blake, 45, on October 1 at Dam Square, in the city center of Amsterdam, where he was booked for a performance.

In his defense, the Grammy Award nominee for Best Reggae Album said that he was acting in self-defense and had no intention of stabbing Blake, adding that he was protecting himself because he was wearing a valuable watch.

His legal team has the option of appealing the case at the Netherland's court of appeal.

This isn't the first time the crooner is finding himself at logger head with the law. He was charged with illegal possession of firearm, rape, and robbery with aggravation, and was jailed for 15 years in prison in 1999, but was released early in 2007 after serving eight years.

In 2011,he was charged with drug possession after police discovered a little amount of marijuana in his vehicle.

Afropop star Yemi Alade to lead Africa Covid-19 vaccine campaign

Nigerian songstress Yemi Alade has been appointed as Africa’s ambassador for covid 19.

The multiple award-winning singer will be tasked with the responsibility of mobilizing Africans to get vaccinated against the pandemic , in a campaign dubbed #Its up to us.

The campaign is part of Africa Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and Mastercard Foundation statergy to ramp up the number of inoculated persons

According to the Africa CDC, about 12.33% of the continent's population is fully vaccinated, and slightly 0.90% have received their booster shot.

While confirming her appointment ,Alade said she is excited to join the Africa CDC, Mastercard, and thousands of Africans to curb the spread of covid-19 through "one shot at a time".

In 2020, Yemi was named Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Ali Kiba's wife files for divorce, alleges infidelity

Tanzanian sensational singer Ali Kiba's wife Amina Khalef has filed for divorce alleging the singer deserted her and their two children.

According to papers filed at the Mombasa Kadhi’s court, Amina said the marriage is irretrievably broken, hence the need to end it once and for all.

She cited constant quarrel with the singer’s relatives and friends who lived with them at their matrimonial home.

Amina stated that the disagreements caused her mental anguish, forcing her to leave their home in October the same year they walked down the aisle while pregnant with their first child.

Ali Kiba and Amina walked down the aisle in April 2018.They held two humongous weddings in Mombasa and Dar es Salaam.

Amina said the ‘Bwana Mdogo’ hitmaker did not cater for the hospital bills for when she gave birth to their son on February 19, 2019; adding that, upon her return home, the situation worsened, with her accusing the singer of being verbally abusive towards her.

She further claimed that he was unwilling to provide for her and their child, and would only do so after a heated argument.

“Despite reaching out to Kibe to try to resolve their matrimonial disputes, Kiba has been unwilling and unresponsive to the petitioner’s efforts,” read court papers.

“It would be in the interest of justice that the marriage be dissolved.”

Amina now wants the marriage formally dissolved, and the crooner be directed to pay a medical cover for their two children as well a monthly upkeep of Ksh.200,000.

Amina filed for the divorce on January 8, 2021.

Mombasa Chief Kadhi Ali Abdalla has directed Kiba to reply to the petition within 15 days.

Rapper Professor Jay hospitalized, friends appeal for medical aid

Popular Tanzanian rapper Joseph Haule better known as Professor Jay, has been hospitalized for three weeks.

According to reports, the singer is undergoing specialized treatment for a condition that the family is yet to reveal.

Confirming Prof Jay hospitalization, fellow musician AY said the veteran singer has over time shown signs of progress but prayers will also go a long way in helping the former Mikumi MP get back on his feet.

“Our brother Professor Jay has been unwell for around three weeks now and is undergoing specialized treatment at the Muhimbili National Hospital

“There is progress but let us keep praying for his full recovery. For now, the family has opted not to make his ailment public but all this will be disclosed in due course,” said AY.

“The family has not formally asked for financial assistance but as friends we are obligated to come through for him during this period. He has been a mentor and brother to most of us and has entertained us for over two decades.”he added .

According to AY, the singer roughly uses Sh200,000 per week for treatment and although the family is paying a significant percentage of the bill, additional help would go a long way in easing the burden.

The Nikusaidiaje hit maker ventured into politics in 2015 after he was elected Member of Parliament Mikumi constituency.

He later lost the seat in 2020 to his opponent Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) candidate Denis Lazaro.

Musician Julius Owino popularly know as Juliani has tied the knot with former Machakos First Lady Lilian Ng'ang'a who separated with Governor Alfred Mutua last year.

The love birds formalized their union in a glamourous ceremony attended by close friends and families.

According to reports, the wedding was held on Wednesday at undisclosed location in Kiambu county.

The bride was dressed in a baby pink flowing wedding gown with the groom cladding in a snow-white t-shirt with an ivory jacket, Dark-coloured pair of trousers and white sneakers.

Taking to her Instagram, Lilian shared a photo of her face beat wearing a cute ivory gown and captioned "Happy and grateful to be alive to see my favourite #2 looking soooo aligned! ~ 2.2.22 ~"

DJ Joe Mfalme acquires Red Berry DJ Academy

Popular Disc Jockey Joseph Mwendwa, better known as DJ Joe Mfalme has announced the acquisition of a DJ Academy aimed at equipping upcoming deejays with skills and mentoring them.

Taking to his Instagram handle, DJ Joe Mfalme said he will take the role of mentoring and developing a new curriculum at the Red Berry DJ Academy.

Mfalme signed the contract as a director alongside fellow DJ Michael 'W-dj' Waithaka.

“@wdjay and I have acquired @redberrydjacademy and will be taking on an active role in mentoring and development and implementation of a new curriculum,” wrote Mfalme.

According to a press release issued on Monday by the institution, the move is expected to set a new standard in the entertainment circle.

“By bringing in the two new directors, Red Berry Deejay Academy is poised to set a new industry-standard never seen before,” stated Red Berry Academy.

According to the press release, W-dj will handle the corporate side of the business while Joe Mfalme will take a hands-on role, according to the Academy.

“WDJ is set to handle the corporate side of the business while Dj Joe Mfalme will be taking on an active role in mentoring students and development and implementation of the new curriculum,”

Black Panther star Lupita Nyong'o tests positive for Covid-19

Oscar award winning actress Lupita Nyong'o has tested positive for Coronavirus.

In an announcement on Tuesday, via her official social media handles, the actress said that she had contracted the virus despite being fully vaccinated.

Lupita said she is currently in isolation and hopes to recover soon , as she called on her fans to do all they can to protect themselves and other people against Covid-19.

"I too have tested positive for Covid-19. I'm fully vaccinated and taking care in isolation, so I trust I will be well," she tweeted.

Prior to her testing positive for the virus, She was set to appear on virtual interviews promoting their latest espionage thriller ' The 355' alongside co-stars Jessica Chastain, Cruz, Diane Kruger, Fan Bingbing, and Sebastian Stan.

The virtual interviews were set for Friday, January 7th when the thriller will premiere in the theatre.

Rhumba star General Defao is dead

Congolese singer Lulendo Matumona, better known as General Defao, is dead. He was 62 years old.

Defao died at the Laquintinie Hospital in Douala, Cameroon, where he was admitted on Monday.

He was famed for his hit Sala Noki.

Musicians Fally Ipupa and Ferre Gola led entertainers to mourn Defao describing his demise as a loss for Africa.

Born in Kinshasa on December 31, 1958, General Defao started singing in 1978 as part of Orchestre Suka Movema.

He also had a stint with Fogo Stars and Somo West before joining Grand Zaiko Wawa and later becoming an integral part of Choc Stars.

It was during this period that Defao honed his singing and songwriting skills, working with household names at the time like Ben Nyamabo and Bozi Boziana.

During the mid-90s, Defao was already threatening to dislodge renowned names like Koffi Olomide and Bozi Boziana from their perch but he did not enjoy the same popularity abroad.

He went on to release a number of albums in 1999 but inconsistency and problems with the powers that be in his home country worked to his disadvantage.

Defao sought to kickstart his career in Kenya but his bid was cropped by financial troubles and lack of proper management.

After more than a decade of exile in Kenya, Defao made his big return to his country the DRC on August 4, 2019.

One of his first gestures was to go to the Necropolis to bow to the Graves of Papa Wemba, Tabu Ley, King Kester Emeneya, Madilu System and Pépé Kalle.

Singer Size 8 Reborn set to be ordained as a pastor

Gospel singer Linet Munyali better known as Size 8 Reborn is set to ordained as a preacher in a ceremony that will be held at the Jubilee Christian Church (JCC) Gatitu, Thika on Sunday, December 12.

JCC Senior Pastor Kelvin and Jacky Ephraim will preside over the ordination ceremony.

Size 8 took to her social media handle to announce the big news describing her new mission as an emotional moment for her.

“I will be ordained as a minister of God's word, a servant of the most high God this Sunday and this is very emotional for me. God is not a man that He should lie. He chooses whomever and changes them to serve Him.”

Size 8 crossed over to the gospel ministry in April 2013 after a stint as a secular artist.

She marked her entry into the gospel scene with the hit ' Mateke'.

“My life is like a movie from the secular world to an ordained servant of God. See God. God’s grace is real. I got born again in 2013 and started the Gospel music journey, five years later in 2018, I went to Bible school and graduated. Now 8 years later in 2021, am going to be ordained,” she narratedThe singer felt obligated to God and grateful to his husband and mentors for guiding her through the transition from the secular to the religious world..

"To God be the glory only by His grace, His power and spirit through His son Jesus Christ has this happened. In God's time he makes everything beautiful. To my husband @djmokenya thanks for allowing me to go serve God and to my Pastor and mentors Pastor Kelvin and Jacky Ephraim God bless you all.”

Singer Gilad Millo officially becomes Kenyan citizen

Former Israeli diplomat turned musician cum farmer Gilad Millo is officially a Kenyan citizen.

Taking to his official social media handle to share the news, the Milele famed singer revealed that he applied for the citizenship six years ago.

Glad came to Kenya 21 years ago as a diplomat.

“It has been 21 years since I first came to Kenya ❤ and 6 years since I applied for my Kenyan Citizenship 🇰🇪 Now it is finally official 🙏🏽 najivunia kuwa mkenya 🥳 #GodIsGood,” shared Gilad Millo

Carrol Sonnie confirms break up with Comedian Mulamwah

Comedian Mulamwah’s girlfriend Caroll Sonnie has confirmed that the two are no longer an item.

Sonnie who the broke news on her social media handle on Monday said the two decided to part ways amicably.

Without disclosing the reason for their break up, the actress said fallout has been instigated by 'reasons known to them'.

“This is to make it clear that mulamwa and I are no longer together. We have both agreed and decided to part ways for reasons best known to us. Thank you so much for the love and support you gave us for those 4years, I personally don’t take it for granted.”

In her lengthy post, Sonnie went on to wish Mulamwah the best in his future endeavors,saying she will cherish all the moments they shared together.

“To mulamwa, Thank you so much for letting me be part of your life for those year I appreciate sana and I’ll forever treasure the memories. In your next step in life, I wish you nothing but the best. Keeping winning and God bless every step of your life," Sonnie captioned a photo on Instagram.

The break-up comes barely a week after the two unfollowed each other on social media.

Koffi Olomide concert in Nairobi cancelled

A concert that was set to be headlined by legendary Congolese crooner Koffi Olomide has been canceled.

The event promoter in a statement on Saturday said those who had booked their tickets for the event will get their refund.

Koffi Olomide was set to perform at the Waterfront Mall in Karen in Nairobi on December 11.

" It is by keeping with the wisdom of ensuring quality, quantity and palatability that Aces and Light have decided to take a hiatus in the efforts to host the much-anticipated concert by the legendary Congolese musical Quartier Latin International Orchestra led by Mopao, Koffi Olomide. This hiatus shall enable Aces and Light to better organize our planned concerts or to ensure it meets the expectation of all music lovers amongst the Kenyan music connoisseurs, ”K.K.L Wesley the CEO of Aces and Light company said.

In 2016, the Papa Plus hitmaker was deported back to his country after allegedly assaulting one of his dancers.

This is the second time, Koffi's concert is being called off, in 2018 his planned performance at the 5th Devolution in Kakamega County was cancelled.
