Former Mount Elgon Member of Parliament John Serut is dead, his family has confirmed.
He succumbed to cancer-related complications while receiving treatment at a Nairobi Hospital, his son Chesebe Serut told a local news outlet.
"He succumbed today at around 3.21am at Nairobi hospital ICU," Mr Chesebe told Nation.
The former MP had been in and out of hospital after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.
"This time he has been there for around two and half weeks," Mr Chesebe added.
Mr Serut was first elected to parliament the in 2002. He also served as Assistant minister for planning during President Mwai Kibaki tenure.
In 2007, he however lost to Mr Fred Kapondi.
Mr Serut then re-elected back to Parliament in 2013 before Kapondi ueated him for the second time.
