FIFA suspends Kenya from all football activities

World football governing body has suspended  Kenya from all international football competitions citing government interference ,FIFA president Gianni Infantino has announced.

The ban means that no Kenyan team - including those at the top flight league will participate in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) tournaments.

The suspension also means that neither the Football Kenya Federation(FKF) nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any development programmes including courses or training from FIFA and CAF.

FIFA said the country will remain suspended until the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), which was disbanded last year by the Sports CS Amina Mohamed is reinstated.

FIFA also suspended  Zimbabwe for similar reasons.

“We had to suspend two of our member associations – Kenya and Zimbabwe – both for government interference in the activities of football associations in these countries.

“These associations are suspended from all football activities with immediate effect. They know what needs to be done for them to be reinstated,” Infantino told a press conference on Thursday.

Last year, the Sports CS announced the disbandment of FKF over the misappropriation of funds in a move that led to the arrest and prosecution of Federation President Nick Mwendwa who later bowed to pressure and resigned accusing the government of witch hunt.
