Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna has declared his intention to contest for the Nairobi governor’s seat in the forthcoming August General Elections.
The Canada based lawyer who has been out of the country following his 2018 deportation, reckons that he is still entitled the right as a Kenyan citizen to run for a political seat.
During the 2017 elections he unsuccessfully contested for the seat but lost to former Governor Mike Sonko.
In an interview with a local news outlet, Miguna revealed that he has not yet shelved his ambition to serve as the county boss
- "intend to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat. I am a registered voter and I can run for office,” Miguna said in an interview on KTN News on Wednesday night.
When asked which political party he intends to contest on, Miguna disclosed that he would not be running independently as during his last race but will soon be revealing the party he will run under.
“I will be running on a party yet to be declared; that is where it is. Wait for the announcement, if I change my mind I will let you know,” he said.
If cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Miguna will face off with Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu, Senator Johnson Sakaja, Businessman Richard Ngatia ,Westland MP Tim Wanyonyi and Former MP Margaret Wanjiru whom all have declared interest in the seat
Mr. Miguna was deported in 2018 following the mock swearing-in of ODM leader Raila Odinga, his attempt to come back to the country has borne no fruit.
In November last year, the lawyer was blocked from a flight to the country after it emerged that Air France declined to fly him over a Red Alert.
Miguna said the airline informed him at Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport that he can not board because of a new Red Alert issued by the Kenyan government.
