Lamu Senator surrenders to police to over alleged shooting incident in Nanyuki

Lamu senator, Anwar Loitiptip has surrendered to the police over an alleged shooting incident in Nanyuki whereby a woman sustained gunshot injuries. 

Anwar, who is currently in police custody, will answer to various charges, including misuse of a firearm and causing injury when he appears in court on Monday as expected. 

A police report indicated a woman identified as 32-year-old Joy Makena  was on Saturday night rushed to hospital in Nanyuki with gunshot injuries on her right foot, above the ankle.

According to police officers from the Nanyuki Police station, the woman, Makena, had allegedly quarrelled with the Senator before the incident.

Two spent 9 mm cartridges, 13 rounds of ammunition, and a firearm were recovered from the scene by police officers who responded to the incident. 

The senator told a local publication that he resorted to shooting into the air as he had been attacked while at a hotel in Nanyuki

He said, "I am at a hospital for some checkup and will speak on the matter later, but the truth is that I was attacked by a knife-wielding gang last night."
