David Malombe has been appointed as the Executive Director of Kenya Human Rights Commission(KHRC).
He replaces George Kegoro who left his post as the commission's boss in November last year.
The board chairman Makau Mutua confirmed Malombe's appointment in a statement sent to newsrooms.
"Malombe has been an integral colleague at the KHRC as Program officer and Deputy Executive Director. He is well known in the NGO sector where he has distinguished himself as a key leader and organizer in the fields of human rights and good governance at all levels in society,” Mutua said.
Prior to his appointment, Malombe who had served as the commission's deputy executive director led the rights agency in an acting capacity.
Kegoro who had led KHRC for five years left to take up a new role as the Executive Director of Open Society Initiative for East Africa.
