Mutyambai: Normalcy has been restored in Laikipia

The Inspector-General of police Hillary Mutyambai has said normalcy has been restored in areas affected by the clashes in Laikipia County following heightened security operations in the area.

Mutyambai took to Twitter to affirm that bandits who had been attacking the residents for the past weeks had been flashed out by a multi-agency team of security officials.

He tweeted, “Bandits have been flashed out by a multi-agency security team and normalcy has resumed in the affected areas.”

“We strive to ensure normalcy returns in Laikipia and its environs. The operation continues,” the police boss responded to a tweet.

According to Mutyambai, efforts towards lasting solutions to the bandit attacks in Laikipia and Baringo will involve the police service engaging community leaders and local stakeholders in peace and security initiatives.

The Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang'i directed more high-ranking police officers to land in the area and aid in the ongoing security operation and to guard learning centres in the area.

However, reports indicate that most of the 16 schools shut due to insecurity did not reopen on Monday morning as was expected and those which opened had a low turnout.
