Kenya receives first shipment of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine from US

Kenya has received its first batch of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine from the United States government.

The consignment of 795,600 vaccines arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport aboard a DHL Cargo Plane on Friday.

Another 1,236,690 doses of Pfizer are expected in the country in the coming weeks to complete the 2.3 million Pfizer vaccines the US government has pledged to donate to Kenya.

"The vaccines arriving today are the same safe and effective Pfizer vaccines that have been used to vaccinate millions of people in the United States and around the world. We expect additional shipments of Pfizer doses to arrive next week and in the coming weeks,” said Eric Kneedler, the US Ambassador to Kenya.

Kenya has so far administered 3,290,450 vaccines, of these 2,439,528 were administered as first doses while , 850,922 as second dose.
