South Africa's court rejects Zuma's bid to overturn sentence

South Africa's top court on Friday stood by his order to jail Former President Jacob Zuma, accessing him of undermining the court.

The case however doesn't have an implication on his recent release on medical parole.

In a majority decision on Friday, the constitutional court rejected his appeal.

“The application for rescission is dismissed,” Justice Sisi Khampepe said as she read the majority decision, which included an order for Zuma to pay costs.

The 79-year-old had asked the Constitutional Court to rescind its decision to sentence himself 15 months for contempt of court.

Zuma's release on medical parole has since raised uproar amid allegations of irregularities in the process.

Zuma was forced to resign as president in 2018 amid corruption allegations and an inquiry led by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo formed to investigate him.

He was jailed in July after a long-running dispute with the judicial commission of inquiry after he refused to give his testimony .
