Covid-19: Kenya records 444 new cases with a positivity rate of 5.9%

Kenya has recorded 444 new cases of coronavirus from a sample size of 7,511 tested, pushing the cumulative confirmed cases to 245,781140 while the positivity rate stands at 5.9%.

The Ministry of Health stated that from the new cases, 430 are Kenyans while 14 are foreigners and 242 are males while 202 are foreigners.

The oldest case is 90 years old while the youngest case is is a three-week-old infant. 

According to the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the total recoveries stand at 236,169 as 700 new recoveries were recorded. 

Sadly, four more people have succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 4,965.

Currently, 1,472 patients are admitted to various health facilities in the country, while 3,309 are under the Home-Based isolation and Care Programme.

Of the 119 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 86 are on ventilatory support, 27 on supplementary oxygen and 6 patients are under observation. 

Another 543 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 505 of them in general wards and 38 in the High Dependency Unit.

A total of 3,290,450 vaccines had been administered across the country as of September 16, 2021 with the first doses being 2,439,528 second doses being 850,922.
