UK removes Kenya from red listed countries in traveling

The United Kingdom has reviewed the travel ban it set for countries over coronavirus, thereby removing Kenya from the red-listed countries effective 4am on September 22, 2021.

The move was made to ease travel restrictions as more countries foster vaccination drives.

Pakistan, Turkey, Maldives, Egypt, Oman, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are other countries that the UK has removed from the list.

UK’s Transport Secretary Grant Shapps stated, “Today’s changes mean a simpler, more straightforward system. One with less testing and lower costs, allowing more people to travel, see loved ones, or conduct business around the world while providing a boost for the travel industry.”

On Friday, September 17, 2021, Shapps announced a simplified system for international travel in light of the success of the UK’s domestic vaccine rollout. The aim is to provide greater stability for industry and passengers.

He added that a single red list of countries and territories willl replace the current traffic light system to continue protecting public health, and ensure simplified travel measures for arrivals from the rest of the world Monday, October 4 at 4am.

Eligible fully vaccinated travelers, who will no longer need to take a PDT when traveling to England will experience reduced testing requirements from Monday, October 4.

The travel secretary said that following the success of an existing pilot with the US and Europe, fully vaccinated travelers from 17 countries and territories such as Japan and Singapore will be welcomed in England and treated like fully vaccinated UK travelers from October 4.
