Kenya has received 200,000 doses of the China-manufactured Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine, making it the fifth approved type of vaccine to be deployed in the country.
So far Kenya has deployed AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson&Johnson and Pfizer BioNTechh vaccines.
The consignment was received by the Ministry of Health officials led by Principal Secretary Susan Mochache and the China Minister Counsel to Kenya on Saturday.
" I am glad to report that all our Health care workers have already been trained on the administration of this vaccine, as is the case with all the other vaccines we have so far received,” Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement on Saturday.
The vaccine comes just a day after the country received its first shipment of 795,600 doses of the Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine from the US government.
As of Thursday, a total of 3,290,450 vaccines had been administered in the country.
