Former World Javelin champion and Olympic silver medalist Julius Yego on Monday failed to advance to the javelin final after failing to hit the qualification mark in Tokyo, Japan.
Yego failed to register any legal mark in his two first throws in his bid to achieve the qualification mark of 83.50 meters.
He however in his third attempt managed to throw 77.3 meters which was classified as his season-best since he has only participated in two events this year.
It was also a tough night for Olympic bronze medalist Keshron Walcott of Trinidad who also failed to qualify for the finals.
Speaking shortly after the trials, Yego attributed his performance to a niggling bicep injury.
"I’m happy I competed at all today because I have a biceps injury which has really been disturbing me and yesterday I didn’t know I would compete at all,” said Yego.
Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem and Germany's Julian Weber are among the finalist.
