Hit song Ndovu ni Kuu back on YouTube

Kenyan hit song Ndovu ni Kuu by singer Cristopher Thande, popularly known as Krispah is back on YouTube after a push and shove between him and an upcoming musician who goes by the name Dexta Bryanka.

Through a statement by his legal team shared on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, Krispah confirmed that the song which has garnered over 3.5 million views is back.

The statement reads in part, “No monetary or other arrangements were made with him (Bryanka) as he has no entitlement to any part of the song. We hope he shall cease and desist from making false statements and claims in the public domain.”

Bryanka had filed for a copyright complaint which   led to the temporary deletion of the song from YouTube but he lost the battle given that the song is back on the site.

Khaligraph Jones, a rapper who features in the song, attributed Bryanka's move to ‘jealousy’.

Speaking to a local publication in an earlier interview, Khaligraph said, “It is unfortunate that we get to this level of jealousy from fellow artists. The copyright strikes are not legitimate; even Mejja was a victim of such circumstances, so it is something that is happening now in the industry.”

However, Bryanka claimed that the song was not only a copyright infringement to his music but also sheds a bad light on Kenyatta University’s brand due to its scathing lyrics.

He added that as the institution’s ambassador and he is fighting for its integrity legally.
