Madagascar President Rajoelina survives assasination attempt

Authorities in Madagascar have said it has arrested six people including several foreign and Malagasy nationals over a suspected plot to assassinate President Andry Rajoelina.

The country's Attorney General Berthine Razafiarivony said on Thursday the arrest took place on Tuesday as a probe "into an attack on the state security"

Addressing the press, Razafiarivony said the foiled plot included the " killing and neutralization " of senior political figures other than the President.

During the country's Independence Day  celebration on June 26, the gendarmerie announced that they had foiled an assassination plot on their boss Rajoelina's right-hand man General Richard Ravalomanana.

Rajoelina 44, was sworn in as President of the Indian Ocean Island country in 2019.
