FKF suspends lower tier leagues in 13 counties

Football Kenya Federation( FKF) has suspended lower-tier leagues in 13 counties declared as COVID-19 hotspot zones.


This follows the Ministry of Health directive yesterday that saw sporting activities suspended in the 13 counties.

Among leagues affected include Women Division 1 league, Division 1 and II leagues, Regional leagues, sub-county leagues and other grassroot football programme.


The top-flight league matches in the listed counties, as well as the National Super League matches, have also been suspended pending consultation with the Ministry of Health and the Federation.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Thursday stated that the 13 counties have been declared Covid-19 hotspot zone after recording a positivity rate of 21 per cent against the national average of 9%  


"Over the last 14 days infections in the Counties of Busia, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Bungoma, Kericho, Bomet, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa-Bay and Migori constituted 60% of the national caseload,” noted the CS.
