President Kenyatta gazettes first sitting of 13th Parliament

President Uhuru Kenyatta has gazetted Thursday, September 8 as the first sittings of the 13th  Parliament. 

Members of both the National Assembly and the Senate will be sworn into office on that day. 

“I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defences, appoint that the First Sitting of the National Assembly and Senate shall be held at the main Parliament Buildings,” President Kenyatta said in Gazette Notice Number 10527.

The National Assembly will have 349 members, including the 47 County MPs and 12 Nominated Members of Parliament.

In the Senate,67 members, including 20 Nominated Senators will be sworn in. 

The President is required by the Constitution to declare the date for the first sitting of the both Houses via a gazette notice within 30 days of the elections.
