Kakamega Homeboyz kick off training ahead of league resumption

Its barely three days after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted sports ban and Kakamega Homeboyz have started team-training to be well-prepared for the resumption of the Football Kenya Premier League scheduled for  May 12.

The team's first squad session was on Monday at Bukhungu Stadium, which was the first time in two months.

However, Club boss Cleopahs Shimanyula is confident in the players as they had been busy with individual training during the sports ban.

He said, “They have already started team-training and this began yesterday. They have been doing individual training in the last one week under the coaches’ manual,” Shimanyula said adding, “The boys are eager to return on the pitch and we expect a lot from them.”

“We are very ripe and ready to roar in the league, you watch this space. Just wait for the league resumption …the team is sharp and this is because the boys have been on toes under the supervision of their coach," Shimanyula added.

The club boss affirmed that every player has been under the watch of the technical bench and the club is keen to ensure the team finishes in a respectable position as every team in the top 10 slot is capable of getting the title.

Shimanyula, lauded the government's decision to lift the sports ban teaming it a great move .

He said, “The boys are now getting full salaries and we want to thank our sponsors, a betting company,  for their one year renewable sponsorship which has helped a lot. The county government has not given us anything for now nine months.”

Kakamega Homeboyz sits eighth on the log with 21 points, 15 points behind leaders Tusker.
