Egyptian authorities on Saturday freed Al Jazeera Journalist Mahmoud Hussein who was held in pre-trial detention for more than four years.
Hussein an Egyptian national was detained in December 2016 over allegations of spreading fake news, joining a banned group and receiving foreign funds.
According to news reports, the Cairo Court ordered the releases of Hussein on " Precautionary measures"
Reacting to the news, Al Jazeera Media Network said no journalist should be persecuted for their profession.
"No journalist should ever be subjected to what Mahmoud has suffered for the past four years for merely carrying out his profession,” the media house tweeted.
