Deputy President William Ruto has joined the family and friends of Kenyatta National Hospital kidney specialist Dr Anthony Were Omolo in mourning the doctor who died of Covid-19.
According to Ruto, Omolo was a compassionate, selfless and exceptional doctor who was passionate about his profession and serving others.
"He worked tirelessly to encourage and care for his patients, taking time to understand their problems." The DP said
He added that the late doctor put on a good fight trying to fight Covid-19.
"Dr Were took pride in his work and stood out for his reliable presence and professionalism. His legacy lives on in our patients whom he attentively cared for. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr Were’s family, his colleagues on the frontline, the University of Nairobi, the African Association of Nephrology, the East African Kidney Institute fraternity and friends at this incredibly painful time. Rest In Peace," Ruto added.
Omolo who was also the president of the African Association of Nephrology and deputy director of the East African Kidney Institute succumbed to Covid-19 on Friday night after being in the ICU for 10 days.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union said that the medic was an excellent mentor who has left a great legacy.
"Heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the medical fraternity."
The deceased was the president of the African Association of Nephrology and deputy director of the East African Kidney Institute, " the union said in a tweet
