Omanyala edge out Simbine to bag Africa Championship Gold

Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala has shattered the Africa Championship Record handing Kenya its first Africa 100 metres title in 32 years.

Omanyala ran from behind to win in 9.927 seconds, beating defending champion Akani Simbine from South Africa who clocked 9.93 seconds in a photo-finish in the ongoing Africa Senior Athletics Championships taking place at Cote d’Or National Sports Complex, Reduit, Mauritius.

Besides clinching the title, Omanyala also lowered the record held by Nigerian Sean Ongunkoya set in Dakar in 1998.

The 26-year-old also holds the African 100m record over the same distance at 9.77 seconds.
