Former Industrialization Minister Joe Nyaga's son John Mwaniki has declared interest in the August 9th presidential election.

Speaking on Tuesday at Kutus, Kirinyaga county, Nyaga said he will present his papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), noting that he will be contesting as an independent candidate.

He noted that the decision was arrived at after holding an intense consultative meeting with leaders drawn from the vote-rich region of Mt Kenya.

" In about two weeks, I am going to unveil my bid as an independent candidate for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya as is my democratic right,"he stated.

"Any community can field a presidential candidate or as many as it wishes."
