Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti has dropped his re-election bid citing ill health.
Speaking in Nanyuki after meeting Sakuye clan elders, Kuti endorsed Nairobi County Assembly majority leader Abdi Guyo to succeed him.
Dr. Kuti who was facing a tough battle in his re-election with former Governor Godana Doyo, former EACC CEO Halakhe Waqo, and politician Hussein Tene declaring interest in unseating him has not appeared in public for more than three months. He last made a public appearance during the national celebrations by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC).
"I have consequently dropped my re-election quest,” Kuti announced.
Mr. Guyo a second term MCA in the city had declared interest in the Embakasi Central parliamentary seat.
Dr. Kuti 58, has been in politics for the past 2 decades serving as Isiolo North MP for two terms and a Isiolo Senator for one term.
