Matopeni MCA Abdi Guyo bags Isiolo Governor seat

 Matopeni Ward Rep and outgoing Nairobi County Assembly Majority leader  Abdi Hassan Guyo has been declared the winner in the Isiolo gubernatorial race.

Guyo, who was vying on a Jubilee ticket garnered 28,946 votes while his main rival Godana Doyo an Independent Candiate  got 2,551 votes.

Guyo’s bid for the county boss post  received a major boost in March  after he was endorsed by incumbent Governor Mohammed Kuti who announced he would to be quitting politics due to health-related issues.

Guyo had earlier on expressed his interest in the Embakasi Central parliamentary seat and he had already commenced campaigns before switching to Isiolo politics

Governor Kuti drops re-election bid citing ill health

Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti has dropped his re-election bid citing ill health.

Speaking in Nanyuki after meeting Sakuye clan elders, Kuti endorsed Nairobi County Assembly majority leader Abdi Guyo to succeed him.

Dr. Kuti who was facing a tough battle in his re-election with former Governor Godana Doyo, former EACC CEO Halakhe Waqo, and politician Hussein Tene declaring interest in unseating him has not appeared in public for more than three months. He last made a public appearance during the national celebrations by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC).

"I have consequently dropped my re-election quest,” Kuti announced.

Mr. Guyo a second term MCA in the city had declared interest in the Embakasi Central parliamentary seat.

Dr. Kuti 58, has been in politics for the past 2 decades serving as Isiolo North MP for two terms and a Isiolo Senator for one term.

Elders endorse Governor Mohammed Kuti to run for second term

Sakuye community elders have endorsed Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti to run for a second term.

The elders drawn from all the 12 clans on Saturday okayed Kuti's second term bid after a two-day deliberation.

The over 200 elders lauded the governor's development track record noting that the county boss needs another term to accomplish all the works he has initiated.

"We are officially blessing our sole candidate Dr Kuti for his re-election bid, "the elder's spokesperson Isack Kara said.


The elders who delegated to the governor the role of choosing the presidential candidate whom the community will back appealed to other communities residing in Isiolo to also throw their weight behind Kuti.

"We will now move to seek alliances with other communities living in Isiolo such as Borana, Meru, Turkana, Samburu and Somali to ensure that our candidate retains his seat." added Kara 


Among candidates who have expressed interest in challenging Kuti's candidature include former Governor Godana Doyo and Ex- Ethics and Anti Corruption CEO Halake Waqo

Police in Isiolo arrest two suspects, retrieve 4 guns in house raid

Police in Garbatulla, Isiolo County have arrested two suspects found  possession of four rifles and 203 rounds of ammunition.

After a tip-off from members of the public, 35-year-old Abdi Guyo and 30-year-old Amina Mohamed were arrested on Friday monrning in the outskirts of Kinna town. 

In a statement, the DCI said, “Three AK-47 assault rifles, one Mark4 rifle, 203 rounds of  7.62X39mm special callibre and nine AK-47 magazines were recovered in the 5am raid.” 

The police also recovered two numberless motorcycles and six stones of bhang. 

Detectives are grilling the duo pending their arraignment.

Isiolo bandit attack results in the death of six people

A bandit attack targeting Turkana herders at Buffalo Springs game reserve in Isiolo County resulted in the murder of six people. 

Isiolo County Commissioner Herman Shambi confirmed the incident happend on Saturday, adding that the attackers from the Samburu trying to tto steal livestock from the resistant Turkana herders. 

A shoot out ensued and one Turkana herder and five Samburu attackers were killed. 

The County Commissioner urged the various pastoralist communities in the county to respect each other’s grazing zones to avoid such conflicts.

Police arrest a man who allegedly murdered his wife in Isiolo

A man, Eric Mutwiri Mwenda, in Isiolo has been arrested by police officers for allegedly killing his wife, Celestine Nduku, a 26-year-old woman. 

Nduku was found dead last Sunday in her house at Kambi ya Juu area. 

Police arrested Mwenda Nanyuki where he was living with his cousin Earnest Kiburi after going into hiding. The cousin is also in police custody. 

The late Nduku's family, who were at her burial at the time of the arrest, hoped that Mwenda will face consequences for his actions.

Reportedly, the suspect had been arrested several times before assaulting his late wife. 

The deceased's father said, “Mungu amewezesha polisi kukamata yeye na tunataka hatua ichukuliwe.” 

“Alishikwa mara ya kwanza vile alikuwa amempiga akaachiliwa akapanga njama akamuua sasa ameshikwa tena wacha tuone kama ataachiliwa ama tutapata haki,” Nduku's brother added. 

The body of the deceased was in a pool of blood bearing several stab wounds when it was discovered by her two children. 

The two suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday.

Isiolo receives 1,500 doses of Covid-19 vaccine, health workers urged to take jab

Isiolo County has received 1,500 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and County Health Chief Officer Ibrahim Alio has asked health workers to cooperate as they are at a high risk of contracting the disease.

Alio also said support staff across the health facilities in the county will also get the jab as part of the national vaccination campaign.

He said, “The doses are for direct healthcare workers and support staff across all the health facilities who are at the frontline in the Covid-19 fight.” 

As per the Ministry of Health guidelines, the vaccination exercise will be at the Isiolo Referral Hospital and Merti and Garbatulla Level Four hospitals. 

“We will assist the health workers at the health centres and dispensaries travel to the nearest hospital for the vaccination,” Alio added.

According to the County Health Chief Officer, Isiolo will undertake a one-day sensitisation of the health workers before the commencement of the vaccination exercise. 

The Ministry of Health has already trained two health workers on how to carry out the vaccination by and in turn, they will train other workers in the county.

The health team will also hold a meeting to deliberate on how the exercise will be carried out effectively to benefit those targeted. 

Alio also said that in case the doses are not exhausted by the health workers, priority will be given to teachers, security teams and people with underlying conditions.

He emphasized that residents should continue observing the health protocols on hygiene, social distancing and wearing of face masks.

 Alio stated, “Our people should strictly observe the guidelines because we are not out of the woods yet.”

Police arrest two men with AK47 rifle and hand grenades

Police have arrested two men with one AK47 rifle, 128 rounds of ammunition and two hand grenades in Merti, Isiolo County on Sunday night. 

The Bomb Disposal Unit and Anti-Terrorism Police Unit pursuing the case are interrogating Abdi Fatah Ibrahim and Yusuf Mohamed regarding the possession of the weapons. 

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that detectives patrolling Duma-Yamicha Road intercepted a Toyota Probox occupied by the two suspects. 

The DCI said, “Spotting two suspicious vehicles both make Toyota Probox, the joint team of officers from DCI Merti and Yamicha Police Post signaled them to stop, but instead the two vehicles sped off.” 

Two occupants in one of the cars– Reg. No. KCY 576H–opened fire at the officers after a hot pursuit. Consequently, there was an exchange of rapid shots in self defense. 

The duo was cornered and were forced to surrender as they were cornered. 

Five magazines and 9 magazine pouches; a military jungle belt; two mobile phones and several pen knives were discovered during a search in their car.

DP Ruto entices Isiolo with his “Huslter Gospel” campaign

Deputy President Wiliam Ruto on Saturday enticed Isiolo County with his “hustler gospel” campaigns. 

Accompanied by 15 legislatures, the DP arrived in Isiolo shortly before noon.

The lawmakers include Turkana Senator Imana Malachy, Christopher Nakuleu (Turkana North), Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), John Paul (Igembe South), Erick Muchangi (Runyenjes), and Garissa Woman Representative Anab Mohamed Gure.

The DP’s agenda is to preside over a fund-raiser for 70 churches which is an initiative of County Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa. 

The venue for the Harambee is at Ngaremara Shopping Center.

Ruto will preside over Boda Boda empowerment in Isiolo town after the fundraiser then will proceed to address several rallies.
