Blow to Mudavadi as Senator Khaniri joins UDP

Vihiga Senator George Khaniri has ditched Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress for the UDP.

Khaniri who has declared interest in Vihiga gubernatorial seat announced his move after leading a delegation of elected MCAs to join the Cyrus Jirongo led party on Wednesday.

At the same time, he rallied the communities in Western Kenya to support ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid, accusing Mudavadi and Mr Wetang’ula of failing to consult other leaders in their move to join DP Ruto further alleging that they acted out of their personal interests.

“As leaders of this community, we feel obliged to state on behalf of the majority of dissenting voices that our brothers acted out of their personal considerations,” Mr Khaniri

UDP is one of the political parties that on Saturday signed an agreement with the Azimio la Umoja coalition to back Raila Odinga’s bid in the August General Election.

Mr Khaniri who is one of the longest serving legislator said his decision to join UDP would not only allow him  pursue his political course but also guarantee the community a stake in national politics, including becoming part of the next government.

“We hereby announce our defection from our various parties to UDP and call upon all residents and aspirants of the various political outfits to embrace this new outfit and make it their home,”
