Wamatangi kicked out of key Senate post after joining DP Ruto camp

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has been kicked out of the Senate Majority Whip post days after decamping from the ruling Jubilee Party for DP Ruto led UDA.

In a letter sent to the Speaker of the Senate and the Registrar of Political Parties, the Jubilee Party National Management Committee (NMC) said Senator Wamatangi's public declaration of joining the UDA during a rally in Thika last weekend has been construed as his resignation from the ruling party.

The senator will further cease to hold any leadership positions in the Senate.

" That Hon. Senator Paul Kimani Wamatangi be deemed to have resigned from the membership of Jubilee Party in accordance with Article 5 of the Party Constitution. he had enjoyed by the virtue of being in the Jubilee Party,” the statement reads in part. The party has also invited the Senator to make his submissions by March 17 if he does not agree with the NMC's resolutions.

“You are requested to make written representations to the Party through the undersigned by close of business on 17th march, 2022 in the event that you do not agree with the above cited resolutions of the NMC,” the statement added.

“By a copy of this letter, and in the event that the Party does not receive your representations by the stated deadline, necessitating a meeting of the NMC to be called for further consideration of the matter, the Hon. Speaker of the Senate is hereby notified for his record and further action.”

In a past interview with a local news outlet, Wamatangi said he was ready for any consequences maintaining that despite having a cordial relationship with President Kenyatta led-party,  his exit was informed by a survey he did on the voters in his home ground.

“I welcome disciplinary action if it comes. I am not one of the agenda. I do not behold any positions.”

“I conducted a very credible survey of what my people want in the next government, and I decided that if it is their wish, then so be it,” he told Citizen TV
