Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Masisi tests positive for Covid-19

Botswana's President  Mokgweetsi Masisi is in mandatory self-isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 in routine testing, the Presidency said on Monday.

“Members of the Public are assured that His Excellency the President does not have any symptoms and will continue to receive close medical monitoring by his medical doctors,” John-Thomas Dipowe, the acting permanent secretary of state communications stated.

The statement further stated that the mandatory isolation was “a precautionary measure in accordance with Botswana’s health protocols”.

 Vice President Slumber Tsogwane will assume the role of the President in an  acting capacity until further notice.
