Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi and First Lady Isaura Nyusi have tested positive for COVID-19, the Presidency revealed in a Monday statement
In a statement, the Presidency said the pair is currently in isolation but is in stable condition.
“President Filipe Nyusi, and his wife, Isaura Nyusi are infected by coronavirus. Even (though) asymptomatic and waiting for the definitive results of PCR tests, they are in isolation in compliance with the health guidelines in force in the country,” the statement read in part.
As of Monday, January 3, 193,371 persons had contracted the virus in Mozambique while 158, 680 had recovered from it. 2,031 persons have however succumbed to the disease while 457 are in quarantine.
He becomes the second African Head of State to contract the virus this year.
On Monday Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi tested positive for COVID-19, the government announced in a statement on Monday.
“The president does not have any symptoms and will continue to receive close medical monitoring by his medical doctors,” John-Thomas Dipowe, acting permanent secretary for Government Communications, said in the statement
