Former Head of Public Service and renowned Paleoanthropologist Richard Leakey is dead.
Following the news of his death, President Uhuru Kenyatta mourned Dr Leakey, praising him for his prominent role in ensuring a vibrant civil society in Kenya.
“On behalf of the people of Kenya, my family and on my own behalf, I send heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the family, friends and associates of Dr. Richard Leakey during this difficult period of mourning,” President Kenyatta said.
He also served as the director of the National Museums of Kenya and chairman of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board of Directors.
Dr. Leakey's death comes hours after that of his close friend Charles Njonjo who died on Sunday aged 101.
