Uganda's Kiplimo smashes half-marathon record in Lisbon

Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo is the winner of this year's Lisbon half-marathon road race.

Kiplimo shoved off one second off the world record on Sunday when clocked 57 minutes 31 seconds.

Kiplimo, 10,000 m bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics smashed the record previously set by Kenya's Kibiwott Kandie in the Valencia marathon, last year.

Ethiopia's Esa Huseyidin Mohamed was second in 59 minutes and 39 seconds with compatriot Gerba Dibaba coming in third after clocking the same time .

Kenyan Hillary Kipkoech was fourth in 59:41.

In the women’s race Ethiopia’s Tsehay Gemechu won in 1:06:06 as Kenya’s Daisy Cherotich was second in 1:06:15 with compatriot  Joyce Chepkemoi third (1:06:19).
