Mudavadi condemns attack on DP Ruto

Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi has condemned the fracas that happened on Wednesday in Kondele during Deputy President William Ruto’s tour in Kisumu.

He said, “It's saddening to see the violent events that took place in Kisumu today. We need to learn to be tolerant of each other in all walks of life. Violence breeds more violence which we don't want."

“All leaders, the IEBC, security agencies, and Kenyans at large should condemn such acts,” added Mudavadi.

As Ruto's convoy entered Kondele, a fracas broke out at the roundabout. Anti-riot police officers were forced to lob tear gas canisters, forcing the rowdy youth, that had thronged the area to scamper for safety.

The hostile reception forced the DP
to cut short his speech while addressing residents in the area.

According to the police, they received intelligence of tension in the area and informed the DP prior to the stopover.

In a statement on Wednesday, Police spokesperson Bruno Shioso said the alleged distribution of campaign logistical funds among local groups triggered tension within Kondele area.

Shioso said, “During the rally, violence erupted amongst the local agitated groups who engaged in stone-throwing and other unruly behavior.”
