Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip arraigned after shooting claims

Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip was arraigned on Monday following allegations that he shot and injured a woman at Kanu Grounds in Nanyuki on Sunday.

The prosecution requested Nanyuki Resident Magistrate Vincent Masivo for five days to continue holding the first-time lawmaker to conclude investigations. Anwar did not take a plea.

However, the court declined the prosecutions application to detain the senator, releasing him  on a cash bail of Ksh.500,000 or Ksh.1 million bond.

Anwar faces charges on causing grievous harm and unlawful use of a firearm. The court also barred him from visiting Nanyuki for the next fives days.

A police report indicated that a woman identified as 32-year-old Joy Makena  was on Saturday night rushed to hospital in Nanyuki with gunshot injuries on her right foot, above the ankle.

Reportedly, the woman had quarrelled with the Senator before the incident.
