Deputy President William Ruto has promised to create 4 million jobs for the youth if elected president in the 2022 General Election.
According to Ruto, curbing youth unemployment requires realistic proposals and not the handouts that he claimed his competitors hoodwink the youth with.
He said the Sh720 billion his opponent is promising youth is outright conmanship.
“Kenya cannot be built by stipends. We need jobs and business opportunities that will make them economically independent,” he said, speaking on Monday in Makueni where he held a grassroots leaders meeting from Kibwezi East and Kibwezi West.
The second in command said that youth unemployment in the country is serious issue that needs practical and sustainable solutions, adding that solutions will come to fruition through the Hustler Movement.
Ruto promised to invest in programmes that will create employment for the four million unemployed youth.
He pointed out his focus on transforming agriculture to enhance the profitability of farming and empowering SMEs through SACCOs.
Ruto noted, "It is only by changing the economy that we will be able to employ more youth, and empower small businesses."
The DP also addressed the public in Mtito Andei, Kambu, Kinyambu, Kibwezi, Mbuinzau, Kiundwani and Makindu.
