The Beijing Marathon has been postponed indefinitely, due to coronavirus cases in China.
Organizers of the marathon said the race which was set for next Sunday was postponed for the second time due to the surge in cases of the virus in the city of Beijing.
"To prevent the risk of the epidemic spreading (and) effectively protect the health and safety of the majority of runners, staff, and residents,” China's ministry of health representative told BBC.
This is the second major marathon to be suspended. Earlier organizers of the Tokyo Marathon which was set for October 17th pushed the event to March 6, 2022 due to Covid-19 pandemic.
China reported 43 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, up from 39 recorded on Sunday.
