Kiagu Ward by-election slated for December 16

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced that the by-election for Member of County Assembly for Kiagu ward will be held on December 16.

In a gazette notice dated October 27, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said the campaign period for the by-elections shall commence on Monday, November 1st, and end on Monday, December 13, with the electoral boss noting that the voters enlisted during the ongoing mass continuous registration exercise that commenced earlier in November shall not be eligible to participate in the mini-polls.

“The registration and revision of the register of voters for the said electoral areas are suspended until December 29, 2021. The poll will take place on Thursday, December 16, 2021.”

The campaign shall run from 7am to 6 pm during the stipulated period.

The gazettement of the by-elections follows the High Court ruling on a case filed by Moses Kuria's Chama cha Kazi which was challenging the disqualification of it's candidate from the by-election.

The High Court compelled the electoral body to include Mr Milton Mwenda Kabobo In the poll.

Mr. Kabobo had been disqualified from vying with IEBC citing integrity  issues.
