Granit Xhaka missed Switzerland's 2-1 friendly win over Greece on Wednesday after he tested positive for coronavirus.
Xhaka has since been isolated, with his teammates now proceeding to training ahead of World Cup qualifiers.
"Xhaka was diagnosed with symptoms on the morning of the game and was immediately isolated in his room. A rapid test turned out negative, the subsequent PCR test, carried out to be on the safe side, produced a positive result in the evening,” said a Swiss Football Association statement.
The Arsenal midfielder and Switzerland captain will undergo another PCR test later today.
Switzerland will face Italy and Northern Ireland in the September qualifiers matches.
The Swiss Football Association confirmed that local health authorities had said no further measures were needed since most of the players had been vaccinated against the virus while others had previously recovered from the virus.
