The 44th World Athletics Cross Country Championship slated for February 18th next year in Bathurst, Australia has been moved by one year.
The event has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Athletics said on Wednesday.
World Athletics and the local organizing committee for the championship said in a statement that the Covid-19 restrictions imposed in Australia have made it impossible to host the one-day event.
" The World Athletics Australia and the LOC are delighted that World Athletics and its partners have agreed to the postponement, which allows us to plan and deliver a world-class celebration of cross country running in 2023,” said LOC Co-Chair and Athletics Australia Board Member, Jill Davies
“We will continue to work hard over the next year to be ready to welcome the world’s best cross-country athletes and athletics fans to Bathurst for a global celebration of cross country running,” said Davies
This is the second time the event which had attracted more than 550 elite athletes from 60 countries is being postponed.
