A Form Two student at Naburereya Secondary School in Bungoma County committed suicide on Monday after her parents confronted her for refusing to report back to school.
21-year-old Joan Wekesa hanged herself at her boyfriend’s house at Kabula market.
The mother demanded that she goes back to school when she confronted her after visiting the boyfriend's house.
She said, “I was told by a neighbor that Joan had spent a night with a man who works at a local concrete making company but when I came and questioned her she looked at me and kept quiet.”
After confronting the girl, the mother left her and went back home to inform her father.
However, she said when he went back to the boyfriend's house together with the husband,where they found her lifeless body was dangling on a rope.
The mother added that Joan refused to go to school, threatening ikoto commit suicide if they continued pestering her.
The deceased’s body was taken to Bungoma hospital mortuary.
